372.6 billion Euros – that was the volume of non-performing loans on European banks' balance sheets in the second quarter of 2025. Yet,liquidity tied up in these non-performing loans can be crucial when it comes to new investments and lending, which in turn bring a thriving economy. No wonder, then, that Bank regulators and central banks, in particular, are urging institutions to systematically reduce risks. At the same time, many portfolios are complex: diverse claim types, collaterals, and real estate values make these assets difficult for banks to manage and realize.
In such situations, a responsible partner is needed to reduce complexity and bring about structured relief. The EOS Group, which shapes the Financial Services segment within the Otto Group, is a leading international investor in receivables and real estate portfolios. As an expert in managing open receivables, EOS has been helping companies and banks for over 50 years to reduce NPLs and thus return liquidity to the economic cycle.
The EOS Group was founded in Germany and is now an internationally active company with operations in more than 20 countries. Our dedicated teams are intimately familiar with the specific characteristics of each individual market and invest strategically wherever opportunities arise. This very diversification enables EOS to respond flexibly to economic fluctuations, spread risks, and optimally balance its portfolio. That is what makes EOS so successful.

An insolvent traditional company, a courageous decision, and a happy ending: This is how EOS, with creativity and perseverance, helped secure around 100 jobs.

About three years ago, the EOS Group took a bold step and founded an own company in Portugal. Today, this vision has become a reality, and the Portuguese subsidiary is now among the market leaders in the industry, with around 100 employees.
The central question in responsible debt collection is: How do we treat defaulting payers? As EOS shows, there's more than one good answer to this question.

Our focus will continue to be on investments in NPLs. They form the basis of our business.
Trust is central to receivables management. As part of the Otto Group, EOS is financially stable and long-term oriented. Today, the company is considered to be one of the most reliable players in the European NPL market. This is underscored by our joint venture with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. The shared goal is to improve corporate liquidity and the debt situation of consumers in growing markets through the responsible acquisition of NPLs in Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Poland, Bulgaria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For sustainable debt relief, EOS not only acquires receivables but also takes on the servicing itself – meaning the professional processing of the portfolios. This includes fair, empathetic communication with consumers, as well as collateral management and the implementation of legal requirements. "For us, debt collection means taking responsibility – not just for our employees and customers, but also for consumers, society, and the entire debt collection industry. In short: changing finances for the better," says Marwin Ramcke.
