Prof Dr Otto’s intensive commitment to protecting nature is evident in the creation of his two foundations: the Environmental Foundation Michael Otto and the Aid by Trade Foundation. The former was established in 1993 to protect and preserve water resources, to ensure a liveable environment for future generations. The Aid by Trade Foundation was founded in 2005 by Prof Dr Michael Otto with the aim of making cotton cultivation more environmentally friendly and at the same time improving social conditions in the producing countries.
With specific targets for the resource-conserving extraction and processing of raw materials, for improving the carbon footprint at our own locations as well as for purchasing and distribution transport, we aim to reduce negative impacts on the environment. We are concentrating on lowering CO2 emissions as well as lowering our consumption of cotton and timber – the raw materials most used in our products. In our external supply chain, we also strive for a safe and environmentally friendly handling of chemicals in order to minimise the impact on the environment and people.
