Dr Michael Otto, entrepreneur and Chairman of the Otto Group Supervisory Board, has received the highly renowned ‘German CSR Award for outstanding CSR Engagement’ for his commitment to sustainable business. The award ceremony was held on 04 April as part of the 13th German CSR Forum in Ludwigsburg.
The German CSR Award jury, chaired by Wolfgang Scheunemann, initiator of the German CSR Forum, together with Prof Wolfgang Schuster, Chairman of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation Board of Trustees, honoured the entrepreneur for setting a long-standing example in Corporate Responsibility. “This award to Dr Michael Otto is in recognition of a man who has lived by the principles of social responsibility throughout his entire life as an entrepreneur”, said Scheunemann. Through several internationally active foundations and alliances the award-winner has gained the support of many other entrepreneurs who live, just as he does, by the principles of social responsibility and pursue climate and environmental protection goals.
“His commitment makes a valuable contribution to spreading the idea of Corporate Responsibility worldwide. His name stands for a sustainable and viable future”, commented Prof Wolfgang Schuster the jury’s decision.
The laudatio for Dr Michael Otto was delivered by Jakob von Uexküll, author, founder of the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’, and initiator of the World Future Council. “Dr Michael Otto is an opinion leader as well as a practical pioneer of Corporate Social Responsibility. Not only has he ensured that the Otto Group plays a leading role in CSR, but has also successfully secured the engagement of many other entrepreneurs in Germany and abroad in this field.”
