Doing business sustainably has been a core principle of the Otto Group since almost 30 years and one closely associated with the figure of Dr Michael Otto. In the 1980s he began to anchor environmental protection as a corporate goal firmly within the company’s structure; in the 1990s he laid the foundations for establishing global guidelines for suppliers’ social practices. With its CR-Strategy 2020, which focuses on the fields of action of Climate and Environment, Supply Chain, and Assortment and Customers, the Otto Group has embedded the fundamental principles of sustainable business even more deeply in the Group’s organisation and business processes. The impACT sustainability management programme provides the basis for the Otto Group’s strategic actions in this area. The Group uses impACT to quantify and assess the different impacts it has on the environment and society along its entire value chain – and to derive efficient measures for managing these impacts.
