The company, founded in 1925 in Burgkunstadt in Germany, is one of the pioneers in the mail-order business. Founder Friedrich Baur was an outstanding entrepreneur. He developed distribution via central buyers and introduced partial payment and the right to return. After 90 years of company history, BAUR now represents a diverse group of companies, which focuses on the segments online business and services.
Core company of the group is still BAUR with its online store baur.de. A clear focus on customer and service, high quality standards and a constantly up-to-date product range in terms of fashion, shoes and furniture, are the key success factors. Target customers are women agend between 40 and mid-50. The segment "online business" is complimented by the shoe mail-order business "I'm walking". Furthermore, the Austrian subsidiary Unito is responsible for different brands such as Universal, Otto Österreich, Quelle in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as Ackermann and Alpenwelt. Unito is active in seven European countries with eight brands and 21 online shops.
The business segment "services" includes BFS, a specialist for the entire value chain in the online and distance selling, the logistics provider 2. HTS, the BAUR photo and advertising services as well as octobo (a specialist in online marketing) and the e-commerce service provider empiriecom.
Since 1997 BAUR is a member of the Otto Group. As at 29 February 2016, the Baur Group employed 3,802 people, including 3,300 employees at its locations in Franconia. External sales grew to 683 million euros in fiscal year 2015/2016.
