The application: Showcase your best.

You're interested in a job with the Otto Group and would like to apply right away? Great! Before you start we have a few tips and tricks for you on how to spice up you application and convince us of you and your skills. We are looking forward to you!

The format

Ideally use our online application form. In case you apply for several openings, please send your documents only once, indicating the different openings in your application.

The cover letter

The cover letter should be no more than one page (DIN A 4) and include the following information: Your goals and wishes, your professional profile and area of expertise, specific skills and experience as well as your individual connection to the company. If possible, name a specific contact person instead of the general “Dear Sir or Madam”. Use your own words, instead of copying standardised phrases from job-search guides. For jobs in Germany, applications should be in German, and for jobs outside Germany you should use English or the local language. Also important: If you've already been in touch with one of our employees (i.e. on a trade fair), definitely mention your contact.

The curriculum vitae

We like a curriculum vitae (CV) that is clearly laid out, easy to read, structured, in tabular form, complete, consistent and informative. Please indicate time-related details with at least the month and year.

The attachments

Two things. First: Only attach credentials that are relevant for the position in question. We aren't interested in individual course certificates or entire graduation theses. Second: If you haven't gotten a (pre) graduation diploma, yet, just add a transcript.

General

Show that you are fully informed about us and the job, and avoid questions that are already answered on our homepage (see FAQs)

You have already applied for a job with the Otto Group. Now what?
This is what happens to your application:

  1. We have received you application and we will instantly send you a confirmation. Our tip: We prefer online applications, since we don't need to scan and mail them back (as with postal applications) or save them in our data base (as with e-mail applications). Using the online application speeds up the application process.
  2. We check your application. HR managers and decision makers of the department in question look at each application individually. The time it takes varies a lot, depending on the number of applicants or the job profiles you have selected.
  3. You will receive an individual reply. Guaranteed.
  4. If your application has made us curious, we would like to get to know you a little better. This is why we conduct a telephone or video interview with you. Btw: We were not only pioneers in introducing video-supported job interviewing techniques, but are also their strongest advocates: Since even before the personal contact we can look into each other's eyes and get to know each other.
  5. We want to get to know you in person. As a general rule we invite you to an interview, or, in some cases, to an assessment centre.

We strongly encourage online applications and ask you to use this format for you application. Your benefits: It takes about 10 minutes to fill out the forms, you can apply for several positions with one click, you can easily send off your application at any time from anywhere, save your data and make changes to it before sending it all off - and underscore your individual profile with the attachments. Another important thing: We guarantee data privacy through SSL encryption technology.

You can apply online here.

Congratulations! We've invited you to a face-to-face interview. You have passed a very big hurdle on the way to your new job.

We'll most likely ask you the following questions during the interview. Ideally you prepare for them beforehand:

  • What are the periods in your life that had the greatest impact on your development?
  • What are the experiences that made you proud, and what would you prefer not to live through again?
  • What are the values and guiding principles that are important for you?
  • What, in your experience, is easy and what difficult for you to do?
  • Tell us five characteristics that best describe you, and five that are less pronounced.
  • What's a great achievement for you?
  • How did you learn people skills?

Please feel free to think of questions you have for us. After all, we want to also convince you of us.
