Are the job offers still up-to-date?
 

Yes, we update our offers daily from Monday to Friday.

Do you also offer trainee programmes?
 

Although there is generally an on-the-job entry at the Otto Group, we also offer management trainee positions. You can find more information on the relevant corporate or group company websites. Trainee positions with the Otto Group corporate headquarters are posted on our job exchange.

Is it better to apply online or in writing?
 

You may apply both online and in writing. Both types of application are treated equally in the selection process. However, if you want to do us a small favour and want to contribute to stemming the paper flood, please use our online application form. E-mail applications are discouraged.

When can I expect to receive a reply to my application?
 

You will receive the acknowledgement of receipt immediately and a reply as soon as your application has been carefully inspected by various persons and departments. That may take some time. However, we try to keep it to a minimum.

Can I also work for the Otto Group from home?
 

Our corporate headquarters offer the possibility to arrange a home office spot, provided your area of responsibility allows for it.

Can I or my child work as a model for the Otto Group?
 

We are sorry, but we work only with well-known model agencies. We do not work with private individuals. For competition reasons, we are unable to give any addresses of our agencies. Please contact the department for artists at your local employment office (Arbeitsamt, Abteilung Künstlerdienst). There you will receive addresses of reputable model agencies.

What should my application contain?
 

An informative cover letter, a curriculum vitae (CV), the two most recent school reports, certificates of internships and/or part-time jobs. Feel free to use our online form for your application. When you apply for an apprenticeship in media design or photography, please include samples of your work.

Is there an application deadline?
 

There is no specific closing date for applications. Yet it's good to know that we start with the selection process about 1.5 years before vocational training begins. From that time on we are filling new apprenticeship positions until they are all accounted for, at which point we publish a notice that there are no positions left open.

Can I complete a high school student internship beforehand?
 

Please do. Apply online or in writing – preferably about one year before the planned start of your internship, because the spots for high school student internships are highly sought-after. At which locations do you offer vocational training positions?
 

Many of our group companies offer vocational training. Here you can find more information on the opportunities in the Hamburg corporate headquarters.

Do you offer vocational training positions in the call centres?
 

Yes, we do. Find out what they are in the overview.

What are the chances for a permanent position?
 

In short: Very good. As a general rule we offer a permanent position to about 90% of our apprentices every year.

What travel costs does the Otto Group pay?
 

We reimburse the travel costs you incur in connection with the interview/selection process. We will provide all the necessary information with the invitation.

Are there any informational events for high school students?
 

Yes, there are. For the corporate headquarters in Hamburg please contact our ASIN team at asin@otto.de. ASIN is the German acronym for “Apprentices are looking for their successors”. For group companies please contact the respective HR department.

Can I also do an internship with the Otto Group after completing a university degree?
 

Please understand that we can only offer you an internship if you apply for a position after having completed a bachelor's degree and with the intention to complete a master's degree afterwards. Please mention this specifically in your cover letter. In the event that you do not plan on continuing your education after your bachelor, or that you have already finished you master, unfortunately we cannot offer you an internship.

Can I do an internship abroad with the Otto Group?
 

It is possible to go abroad for an internship after completing one in the corporate headquarters in Hamburg. However, these are rare and sought-after opportunities. The internship abroad cannot directly follow the one in Germany, since we need a minimum preparation period of three months.

What do I have to pay for when doing an internship abroad?
 

In short: The intern bears the costs for the flight, visa and accommodation.

Does it make sense to send a short-form application?
 

No. Whether you apply for an internship, final thesis or work-study programme, we can only make a selection on the basis of all the documents.

Can I submit an application when no positions are posted?
 

In the case of work-study jobs, unfortunately no, in the case of interships and final theses, yes.

When submitting an application for an unlisted internship or a final thesis, we still need all the required documents (cover letter, resume, credentials, abitur or equivalent, vocational training if applicable, transcript or undergraduate degree, possibly previous internships). Ideally you apply with our online form and then attach the required documents.

Are there any internship positions for re-trainees?
 

IT re-trainees are welcome to apply for specific internship positions in our job exchange.

At which locations do you offer internship positions?
 

The Otto Group offers many locations for internships. The respective job postings show the locations to which the offers apply. You can also search our job exchange by location. Positions in our corporate headquarters are always based in Hamburg.

Can the internship period be split, time-wise or location-wise, or do you also offer part-time internships?
 

Unfortunately this is not possible for organisational reasons.

Do you assist me in looking for accommodation?
 

Yes, we are happy to support you. Upon request we send you a list of student housing facilities and flat-sharing agencies along with the internship contract. We are also happy to display your note on our notice board or send your inquiry to our current interns.

What travel costs does the Otto Group pay?
 

Whether for internships, work-study programmes or final theses: We reimburse the travel costs you incur in connection with the application or selection process. You yourself pay for the costs of travelling to and from Otto for the actual period of practical training.

What are the requirements I have to meet for a work-study job?
 

First: You must be enrolled at a university.
Second: You must not be employed with another company at the same time.

How many hours a week am I allowed to work?
 

Normally, student employees work 15 to 20 hours a week under flexitime working arrangements. However, this depends on the position in question and agreements with the department. As a student employee, you are not allowed to work more than 20 hours a week.

Only exception: During the semester break it is possible to work full-time in agreement with the department in question.

What is the remuneration for a work-study job?

The pay depends on your responsibilities and work hours.

Are work-study jobs only available in Hamburg?
 

Yes, we offer this possibility only in our corporate headquarters.

Can I work from home as a student employee?
 

Unfortunately not.

Should I do an internship before writing my final thesis with you?
 

Ideally, we will have been able to get to know each other during an internship before you write your final thesis. Unfortunately, we cannot make any pledges on the possibility of supervising your final thesis after completing an internship.
On the other hand, we do offer final thesis projects that require internships beforehand.

Must I write my final these exclusively at the respective group company?
 

We primarily assign final theses for the respective locations. However, upon agreement with the responsible department, it is also possible, after an initial period of practical work, to do the actual writing at home.

Do you support final theses abroad?
 

No, we don't supervise final theses abroad

Do you also supervise student research papers or doctoral theses?
 

No, we only supervise diploma, bachelor's and master's theses.
